MADE students also benefit from the complementary strengths of RISD and Brown, neighboring world-class institutions on Providence’s East Side. Close academic ties make it easy for you to broaden your knowledge through elective coursework or access to campus resources. The crossroads between art, technology and society is an exciting new field for Art + Design practitioners. Through the combination of precision engineering, electronic control, sensory inputs, information design, and intelligent systems and haptic and sensory feedback the MAD program explores a variety of possibilities in these fields. The future of design experiences is about integration of the physical and digital—as hybridization or new invention.

Similarly, academic, professional, and personal work are all welcome, but please differentiate these distinct types of work. The Dispute Resolution program curriculum emphasizes the development of skills vital to the resolution of business, domestic, education, management, public policy, church, legal, and healthcare disputes. The quality and uniqueness of the coursework stems, in significant measure, from its multidisciplinary approach to the study of conflict management. Rooted in the social and behavioral sciences, the faculty and curriculum integrates such diverse fields as psychology, team building, law, sociology, management theory, organizational development, public policy, and economics. Organizations are increasingly aware of the importance of conflict management processes and facilitating collaboration to enhance productivity, financial success, and personal satisfaction in their employees. All of these factors indicate that dispute resolution is one of the most marketable skills in today’s world of business and commerce.

The Fung Fellowship is shaping a new generation of entrepreneurial leaders focused on transforming health and wellness. Throughout the two-year fellowship program a diverse cohort of undergraduate students participate in a cross-disciplinary, experience-based curriculum that integrates design thinking and an immersive community experience. A unique feature of the MDes program is the design thesis—an independent research and design project that you will conduct under the mentorship of a faculty advisor.

Things to Consider While Applying

Graduate seminars are taught by the faculty, the Tepper Family Endowed Chair in Visual Arts, and visiting lecturers. Recent visiting lecturers have included Sondra Perry, Ronny Quevedo, Ohad Meromi, Jamie Isenstein, Halsey Rodman, and Zachary Fabri. With no requirement to specialize in a medium, you can focus on what’s relevant to your needs and interests. A minimum of 101 quarter units of upper division and graduate Design Media Arts courses are required. Our tuition is very affordable compared to other MA programs in Design in the Bay Area, both for resident and non-resident students. Students from 14 Western states qualify for resident tuition through the WICHE program. The Cal State Apply application for Design will include basic information and upload areas for a statement of purpose, portfolio, transcripts, and letters of recommendation, and other supporting documents. We recommend that you prepare these documents before starting your Cal State Apply application.

Is the GRE required for this application?

DMA graduate students come from many fields and artists from diverse backgrounds including the visual arts, sciences, and engineering are encouraged to apply. In line with the school’s belief that affordable graduate study in art should be available to all students, all accepted graduate students receive fellowships equivalent to the cost of tuition for the two years of the program. Incoming graduate students are awarded fellowships equivalent to full out-of-state tuition in their first year and full in-state tuition in their second year. (International students continue to receive out-of-state tuition in their second year). No additional applications or requirements are necessary to qualify for the fellowships.

Iterating with intention, MADE participants create and refine work according to real-world needs. Each student is also offered optional part-time employment in Co-Adjutant positions that support the operation of the undergraduate and graduate design area. Robotics at Berkeley is an undergraduate robotics club that supports student-led projects, organizes robotics-related events, and serves as an informational hub for robotics opportunities on campus. Global Architecture Brigades is a student-led, volunteer, design/build organization whose mission is to improve the quality of life in underserved nations through the design and construction of socially responsible and sustainable architecture solutions. Global Architecture Brigade's current emphasis is to help villages of Latin America. Virtual Reality at Berkeley is a student group dedicated to bringing virtual reality to the campus community. This club provides students with access to virtual reality equipment and training and charters project teams to explore the applications and implications of virtual reality in diverse fields through research and development. By providing access to hardware and expertise, they aim to lower the barriers to experiencing and developing virtual reality technology. They are partnering with established labs on campus to investigate virtual and augmented reality as tools for robotics control systems, visualization of complex data, and as an interface for the future. Virtual Reality at Berkeley engages with the campus community through public demo days and infosessions.

So it was with great fanfare that the city revealed in December that it had approved an “exclusive negotiating agreement” with the Las Vegas Museum of Art to continue work on plans for a proposed 90,000-square-foot, three-story building in Symphony Park. Rather than enlarging its physical footprint, LACMA aims to broaden its cultural reach, influence and presence in the West, and globally — a benign Manifest Destiny for the California visual arts scene. All applicants are required to submit a portfolio that demonstrates their creative and technical proficiency. Portfolios are expected to include both images and supporting text and should convey the context from which the project arose and the lens through which to understand and critique the work. Collaborative work is encouraged, but please credit all authors and highlight your specific contribution.

It is highly recommended that all applicants demonstrate that they have completed advanced coursework in the area s/he/they wish to study, as well as related professional and/or exhibition experience. To be competitive, prospective applicants should contact the Director of Graduate Studies and/or the area head of their proposed concentration to schedule a meeting or phone interview before applying. Learn to use critical thinking and the design process to enhance companies, communities and citizens.

Prospective students must submit an online application to be considered for admission, in addition to any supplemental materials specific to the program for which they are applying. In addition to CalArts' rich and diverse community and naturally collaborative atmosphere, the Institute provides several programs of study that can be pursued concurrently with a student's chosen metier. Formal faculty review of graduate applicant portfolios takes place in February of each year. Applicant finalists should be available for an in-person or Skype interview as a part of the application process. Eligible F-1 and J-1 students may work on-campus as student assistants, tutors, teaching assistants, etc. but not as work-study students.

In Detroit, Help for the Formerly Homeless: Q and A The New York Times

humble design detroit

The organization holds small events each month to raise funds and collect furniture. Humble Design®, founded in 2009, has been helping Metro Detroit families and veterans escape the cycle of homelessness for 11 years. But the charity's mission is shifting while precautionary measures limit normal operations. Typically, a caseworker working with an individual or family will make the referral to Humble Design after the individual or family has secured a place to live. Strasberg began collecting items for the family by looking to other friends for donations.

Metro Detroit nonprofit furnishes veteran’s new home ahead of Veterans Day

A U-Haul® van filled with pillows, bedsheets, a TV, a microwave, a new coffeemaker and mugs, towels and washcloths, blanket throws, books, games and puzzles, and some comfortable chairs were delivered. An auction site is already active for supporters to donate and buy gifts. The proceeds will go directly to Humble Design's expanded mission during the COVID-19 crisis. Once the client has been scheduled, the designers begin talking to the client directly to get design ideas. The team of designers utilizes donated items to create furnished spaces for their clients. A house isn’t a home without a warm bed and a placeto gather with family. Humble Design sets families on a course towards a bright and hopeful future. Since its inception in 2009, Humble has turned almost 900 empty houses into clean, dignified and welcoming homes — a simple but powerful idea.

While in line at carpool, I started asking people if they had extra items they could donate. I went around with my friend Ana in her pick-up truck and started collecting items to furnish this home. We called our friends, our neighbors, called people we didn’t know — asking for beds, linens, kitchen items. It took us six weeks to gather all the furniture for the house she found and to decorate it. It was exciting work, but it was a project and, when it was done, I went back Forgotten Harvest. I would come home and somebody would be delivering a crib to my garage, or leaving towels on my front porch.

I find balance in leaning on my husband Rob for help. I have always been a big believer that my family and children come first. I might work well into the night after they go to bed, but I need to look them in the eye and ask about their day. I am in the unusual position of loving what I do, but not needing to do it. We need to love what we do with all of our hearts and take breaks when we don’t. Is there a special story or family that stands out in your mind?

Humble Design ends the revolving door of homelessness by creating homes where families can find peace, strength, and hope. I’m not a native Detroiter, but this community embraced me with both arms. When I started this I knew nothing about the area or nonprofits.

All of the families we help have amazing stories one way or another, but I remember a few that stood out to me because of the families’ untold sacrifices. One woman had three children and her husband died of cancer. When her sister died a year later she took in her three kids and cared for them as if they were her own. She worked two jobs to keep the family afloat, and when we furnished her house, she gave the larger room to the kids and slept in the basement. She cried for the first time in years when she saw those kids jump up and down with happiness. The next day we posted her video online and a person commented “Why did she have six kids if she couldn’t pay for them?

PONTIAC, MICH (WXYZ) — You can help people have a table to gather around, a cozy living room to relax in, and a comfortable bed to get a good nights sleep. They recently talked to a reporter about how they create new homes for their clients, many of them single mothers, from the ground up. Humble Design Detroit is celebrating this milestone with a special home "deco" and reveal on Aug. 27. Humble Design designers, Lisa and Susan, meet with a family they decorated a home for. A before and after photo of a children’s bedroom decorated by Humble Design. “Our goal is to service every family who needs our help nationwide, thereby easing the plight of the homeless in this country,” Strasberg said.

We have two movers, a warehouse manager, six designers and office staff, but we count on our volunteers to help our warehouse stay organized. We also count on corporations to adopt the houses and send their employees down for a day of service. They clean and decorate the home and get to watch the moment when the family comes home. We furnish three homes a week out of one location and have furnished over 900 families to date. We have created a remarkable partnership with U-Haul which donated warehouse and trucking in all the new cities we expand to.

When I told my parents I wanted to be an artist, they double-gulped but, ultimately, got behind the idea and sent me to art programs. My parents also instilled in me the value of giving back — always emphasizing the importance of having empathy — walking in other people’s shoes. I suppose that’s part of the reason big transitions and decisions have never been hard for me to make.

25 Pergola Ideas for Outdoor Living

Glue and screw together a pair for each column top, then glue the plugs flush into the top of each column. To allow for the post thickness and then align the posts with your string line as you pour in the concrete. As you dig your holes, put the soil in a wheelbarrow and find a place to relocate it away from your site. We shifted one post near the house to create an entry along the steps. To keep the posts in alignment, stake your post locations using remote stakes with a string. With the stakes driven beyond the work area, you’ll be able to undo the string while you dig and then reattach it later to check for alignment.

Irwin says that a pergola’s materials impact its durability, maintenance needs, and overall aesthetic, so choosing materials suitable for the environment and your personal preferences is essential. Choosing materials should also be factored into your budget since some materials, like aluminum, are more expensive than others, like vinyl. Overall, the Purple Leaf Outdoor Retractable Pergola is the best pergola for your backyard. It’s less expensive than other options, and we appreciated that it’s durable, stable, and features a retractable canopy as well. Turn a corner into a statement seating area with Pergola Kits USA's Triangle Pergola.

We guarantee that we’ll have the pergola kits you’ve been looking for. We’ve been providing family homes and facilities with beautiful and functional wood pergola kits since 2008. Transform your outdoor space into a stunning oasis with Steel Shade Pergolas. As the premier manufacturer of high-quality outdoor shade structures, we offer beautifully designed pergolas that are built to last.

Deck Skirting Ideas

Most need a concrete foundation, which you sink the posts into to make the whole structure sturdy. Although many pergolas have four open sides, adding privacy screens can increase seclusion on one or multiple sides. Three trellises line one side of this pergola, creating a more intimate setting. Open detailing on the screens maintains the pergola's connection and openness to the landscape.

However, if you have clay soil, it’s best to dig to frost depth (if greater than 24 in.) for your footings to prevent frost heave. A pergola can help to delineate outdoor space into clear areas, serving to section portions of your yard off. The typical pergola makes use of four relatively indistinct sides, while a corner pergola is typically an asymmetrical design intended to tie together a medium-sized space with a sense of cohesion. Usually accompanied by seating options, corner pergolas can also be a good way to help transition from one set of amenities into another. The plans are designed for those with basic woodworking knowledge, and only a few tools are necessary to craft a 16-square-foot pergola. To help you through the building process, a materials list, tool list, cut list, 3D diagrams, drawings, and necessary measurements are all included with the digital plans.

Choose trellis and pergola designs with narrow openings and train vines through them to further increase privacy and shade. The pergola kit comes pre-cut and pre-drilled for easier assembly, and all the top runners are notched to fit over the rafters for stability. This Backyard Discovery pick is the best pergola if you skew toward modern home design. In a departure from typical designs, this piece has a triangular shape that’ll add visual interest to your outdoor space. Pergolas can be an expensive investment for your outdoor space, which is why we love the Outsunny Outdoor Retractable Pergola. This steel pergola is stable, practical, and provides plenty of shade.

Or if DIY isn't your trump card, choose the best hanging chair instead. Our existing patio was built over a sand and compacted gravel base, so we removed only the stones necessary to dig the 12-in. Build a pergola over an existing patio (instead of building a new one) saves you a lot of time, money and work. With the right setup and décor, you can transform a small deck into a perfect outdoor oasis. Get inspired by our collection of grey composite decking ideas and images.

The pergola is offered in three size options and all are pre-stained for a smooth appearance that also makes it highly resistant to natural decay. If anchored as recommended by the pergola’s instruction manual, the Backyard Discovery Cedar Pergola is certified to withstand winds up to 100 miles per hour. We also like that the rods have a hidden drainage system so rainwater cannot collect when closed. Hot tubs are an excellent addition to any backyard, providing both relaxation and enjoyment.

You can easily find simple pergolas for under $600, but on average, Cosby says you should expect a range of $1,000 to $2,500. If you’re going down a more custom route, pergolas can cost anywhere between $3,000 and $20,000. A pergola made of a fiberglass is an investment, but in exchange, you get a material that won't rot, warp, corrode, or delaminate. Pergola Kits USA's Fiberglass Louvered Pergola is a modern-inspired design that can fit in anywhere outdoors with its simple, clean lines. The louvered rafters are spaced 1 inch apart, which can provide complete shade depending on the angle of the sun.

So there hasn’t been a better time to purchase a patio cover kit for your home. As a whole, there is an agreement that homeowners who invest in patio pergola kits see an increase in property valuation. Our ballpark estimate is a 50% — 80% ROI for a complete backyard remodel. The quality of our pergola designs rival composite, vinyl, or aluminum pergola kits, and are offered at a more affordable price point. Whether you choose freestanding or attached, a pergola creates another space for you to spend time outdoors.

But installing a properly thought out pergola can stop this from happening – just one more reason to implement these brilliant pergola ideas. Cut and nail (8d galvanized finish nails) the 1×4 fascia strips (M) flush to the top of the beams and in between each pair of tails. Next, screw the 5/4 lattice strips across the rafter tops, letting them project 3 in. Level the tops of the forming tubes until they’re flush with the patio surface. If you mix the concrete on site, you’ll need about five bags of Quikrete or Sakrete concrete mix per hole, for a total of 30 bags. (That’s enough to have your home center or lumberyard deliver it to the site. If you call for a ready-mixed delivery, ask for 1/2 cubic yard.) Add your 60-in.

Use plain wooden beams and furniture to make the most of whatever setting you have. Train grapevines as single stems to keep the posts clear, and let your pergola blend seamlessly into your garden environment. This design features a rill running through it, drawing the eye to a central body of water, while wisteria and clematis grow up the outer posts and over the roof. For a smaller version you could add a small container pond, and there's no reason why you couldn't also add a dining or seating area. A simple framework using metal beams can add a modern twist to the traditional pergola design. Here, grapevines and summer jasmine grow up the supporting posts and hang down from the metal support beams above.

I think they had dispensers on the shower wall instead of small wasteful bottles so thats a plus. Located on Cordova, south of the Casa Monica, the Old City House Inn offers more than just a good place to eat.

Interior Designers Have Spoken and These Are the Best White Paints

In this case, you may need a machine comparable to the best laptops for architecture students or the best laptops for engineering students. While there are professional home interior design programs, most room planner apps won't let you professionally draw up the sort of plans that will pass a local authority inspection. Think of them as a sort of home-centered mock-up sites - blank canvases to sketch out ideas, share thoughts and collaborate online, or experiment with new forms and designs. Not only can you scroll for tons of inspiration, but you can also share boards with other members of your household (or your interior designer!).

It’s browser-based - even mobile browsers are supported - and has Android and iOS apps, so you can map out thoughts for your home whenever and wherever inspiration strikes. Trace Mode will be especially handy for those with existing floorplans. These can be imported into the home design software and turned into a 3D model. The interior design program, out for Windows and Mac, helps you create buildings on multiple levels, furnish them with a library of 3D models, and customize homes inside and out. It’s built to let you easily make modifications and alterations. DreamPlan is the best home design software if you want powerful tools and simplicity of use.

If you furnishings are neutral, go with a warmer white; if they are colorful, a cool white works best. Kate Donahue, project designer, and Tatiana Amundsen, architect, at Four Brothers Design + Build, both suggest this white paint color, too. White paint colors come in many different shades and undertones.

"My new go-to is Pure White by PPG," confesses interior designer Leanne Ford. "It's perfect! Crisp, modern, bright, and has no tint to it whatsoever. I just did my entire house in it, walls, ceilings, wood floors! Inside and out! It's like walking into heaven." If you're looking for a warmer white, try this pick from Portola Paints & Glazes.

The stakes are surprisingly high—after all, the wrong shade can make your space look as startlingly bright as a hospital hallway, but the right one can turn your house into a bright and happy home. During our tests across the best home design software tools, we first set up an account with the relevant software platform, whether as a download or online service. The best interior design software is tailor-made for crafting homes and indoor spaces. And our team tested out the top 2D and 3D software for interior design to see which ones measure up. Interior designers have multiple options for designing, planning, and remodeling spaces, such as with some of the best home design software, photography programs, and project management software.

It’s the paint that clads the Dia Beacon museum in upstate New York, Susan’s favorite art institution, and is both warm and cool, making it great for a space with lots of sunshine. Because white is the presence of light, sunlight and light fixtures play a big role in the true look of white walls. The key to mastering light and white walls is—you guessed it–undertones!

Best Advanced Software

What I did well was to bring the spirt of Billy Haines [Hollywood interior designer, famous for his ‘Golden Age’ designs for actresses such as Joan Crawford] to Wembley. Designers may find there’s a learning curve when using certain sketch or design programs. Many design software options provide access to training guides to aid in learning these programs and obtaining all their benefits.

There is a reset button so you can remove all the changes you have made. Finally, save the project in JPG format which is only possible if you have an account. Finally, it is time to visualize the room by changing the color based on the hues you have chosen. The tool will help you see if the colors you want to use go well with one another.

From there, you choose a room and can then implement the various color themes into the room colors. We’ve spent hours trying out several paint color matching software platforms to save you time. With its undertones and lower LRV, I wouldn’t recommend Decorators White for cabinets, trims and doors unless you ALWAYS want to live in the cooler end of things (specifically violet-blue). For a vintage vibe that feels equally fresh and clean, choose Dover White. This shade is especially flattering when used in spaces featuring exposed brick and wood.

Planner 5D: House Design Software Home Design in 3D

house layout

A house plan is a house blueprint that illustrates the layout of a home. Floor plans for houses are useful because they give you an idea of the flow of the home and how each room connects with each other. Typically a floor plan design includes the location of walls, windows, doors, and stairs, as well as fixed installations. Sometimes they include suggested furniture layouts and built-out outdoor areas like terraces and balconies. They are usually drawn to scale and indicate room types along with room sizes and key wall lengths. To find the perfect house in Los Angeles, you are going to look at a lot of floor plans from a number of builders.

Townhouses are tall and narrow homes designed to make the most out of vertical space without too much of a yard or garden area. You’ve seen many of them on your favorite TV series, in the movies, and in your own neighborhood. While many might call AutoCAD as the king of floor plan software, it may not be the ideal tool for everyone. There's no reason to shell out a ton of money for AutoCAD when a software like SmartDraw has almost all the same CAD power for a fraction of the cost.

Mid-century architecture is still widely popular today, as are Mid-century Modern interior design and furniture trends. Greek Revival homes often have decorative trim and moulding around the front door and windows. These ornate features and columns are easy ways to identify Greek Revival architecture. The elliptical fanlights and paladin windows are key distinguishing features from Georgian-style homes. Once you're done, you can export your floor plan as a PDF, SVG, or add it to any Office® application.

The marvelous midcentury modern address is on the market for $5 million. If you want to try before you buy, the three-bedroom, two-bath property is also available to rent for $17,000 a month. The 2024 Pasadena Showcase House of Design is open daily from April 21 through May 19; tickets are timed and start at $35. It isn't often that you get the chance to meet and spend time with a movie star, especially a stately celebrity that has held handsome court above the Arroyo Seco for more than a century.

The RoomSketcher App is a powerful floor plan software that lets you do all these things - every day, thousands of people are designing their home plans using RoomSketcher. Luckily, there were so many interesting presentations on view that braving the crowds felt well worth it. For a bedroom off the nursery, Carmine Sabatella wanted to create a jewel-toned escape. “I thought, if somebody’s taking care of the baby, they have a space where they can come and feel like it’s a retreat,” Sabatella says.

The designer outfitted a door handcrafted in India with a vintage mirror to create a one of a kind headboard and bathed the space in deep emerald green. The glamorous touches continue in the ensuite bath, where Sabatella added a custom mirror-tiled tub that plays off the vintage French tile floor. Second Empire homes are also easy to identify since they’re the only Victorian-era style that often features a symmetrical, rectangular floor plan. Italianate architecture continues the trend of asymmetrical design, romanticism, and Medieval influence — this time borrowing features from Medieval Italy.

90 Small Bedroom Decor Ideas Decorating Tips for Small Bedrooms

With the right storage solutions, any small bedroom can look larger. The key is being strategic with furniture choices and choosing large items that come with storage built in. For example, you can buy a bed with storage drawers underneath to store items, which is great if you do not have a lot of closet space. Organizing a small bedroom is key to making it feel larger than it is, so choose bedside tables with multiple drawers either side, too. Never really out of fashion, the classic stripe is having a particular moment right now and it's less about the country ticking look and more about adding personality. Vertical stripes are also one of the tricks interior designers use to make a bedroom ceiling seem higher.

So instead, choose a bed frame with small stature that won't take over the room, such as an iron bed with a see-through headboard and footboard. A bed with no footboard, such as a platform or storage bed, also works well. Keeping the bed's profile to a minimum keeps the middle of your room open, making it feel larger.

Keeping to a consistent neutral colour scheme is a great way to create an air of spaciousness – especially if you opt for pale woods and creamy accessories, too. It's also important to make a small room feel as airy as possible, and one way to do this is enhancing the natural light levels.

Space-Saving Ideas For Small Bedrooms That Will Also Save Your Sanity

Layer drapes with a light-blocking shade for style and optimal light control. A corner seating nook for lounging, reading, and chatting is a bonus in any bedroom, especially in a tiny one! Here, designer Andrew Flesher recovered a pair of vintage Ward Bennett Scissor chairs in a Marimekko print for a fun pop of color. That being said, a dark color palette can work in a small bedroom too, creating a cozy cocooning space that just embraces the small proportions of the room. It can allow you to introduce seating where there might otherwise not be space, plus it can be built with hidden storage beneath a lift-up lid.

This super-small bedroom has utilised a tiny return to layer some simple frames and artwork, creating a makeshift mini gallery wall. A slanted roof will inevitably compromise space in a small bedroom, but this can be optimised with fitted wardrobes. This fabulous blush pink example with stylish brass hardware is a feature unto itself. When it comes to your sleeping quarters, why not create a room-within-a-room with a striking four-poster bed? We love the barley twist version that designer Tatyana Miron Ahlers sourced for her chic Manhattan pad.

Using an uplifting bedroom colour scheme, such as a sunshine yellow, can help to invigorate any small space, just be mindful of how you use the colour. Painting the bright colour up to mid room height will help to anchor the colour to the bottom half of the room. 'There are many options for personalising a fitted wardrobe to ensure it works perfectly for your lifestyle,' says Rachal Hutcheson, National Retail Manager at Sharps. A custom velvet upholstered bed has a commanding presence that pairs with the textured bedding. The look is brought together with a vintage Borge Mogensen dresser and contemporary scones to create a moody, layered look. If you don't have a designated guest room, this could also come in handy in your family room or home office that pulls double-duty when friends are in town. Another top tip is to hang your curtains high above your window and reaching all the way to the floor to create the illusion of high ceilings and large windows. Small doesn't always have to be a bad thing, a small bedroom can be a thing of cozy wonder so why not embrace the tininess.

Using natural wood in your small bedroom decor makes the space feel airy and light. It creates the illusion of a larger space, as well as gives you a chance to upcycle things such as pallets to give them new life. Leave that area open so that all that natural light can pour in to make your space seem larger. Using sheer curtains or blinds that roll down can give you that effect, while still creating some privacy. Clever small bedroom storage is key to your room's success, so use every inch available, majoring especially on over- and underbed storage ideas that are often overlooked.

Some bedrooms are so small that there is not much room for anything other than the bed itself. Use a wall-mounted wire magazine rack as a book holder if there's no space for a bedside table. To ensure that your small bedroom ideas remain clutter-free, include a built-in dressing table so that your make-up trinkets can be shut away to give the room a streamlined look. If you thought all of our small bedroom ideas would involve painting the room white, think again! Going bolder with your colour choices might actually prove more beneficial.

If you haven't got a lot of cash to splash, rest assured you can refresh your small space without bankrupting yourself. Even focusing on specific pieces in the room can make a world of difference, "Instead of buying new, give your existing pieces a fresh look by repainting or refinishing them," recommends Lauren. Be thoughtful with material choices and try to include at least one item that feels truly iconic for a modern vibe that will last for years. If your bed is the only thing you can fit in your small bedroom, you can make a real feature of it by choosing a four poster with a wonderful draped canopy.

SmartDraw makes it easy to drag walls to adjust them or just type the length directly into walls to modify them. Once you've created an outline for your room or house, click on a wall and you'll see two types of growth handles appear. The handle with an up and down or right to left arrow will allow you to move your wall inward or outward vertically or horizontally. The handle at the corners where walls meet will help you adjust your wall diagonally by letting you move the placement of the corner. SmartDraw has basic floor plan templates for rooms, houses, offices, and more.
